Solar Battery Solutions for Your Home

Are you ready to take control of your energy usage and maximize your solar investment? Solar batteries are a game-changer, allowing you to store excess energy generated by your solar panels and use it whenever you need it. This means less reliance on the grid and greater energy independence.

Benefits of Solar Batteries

Consider these advantages of adding solar battery storage to your home:

How Solar Batteries Work

Solar batteries work by storing excess energy generated by your solar panels during the day. This stored energy can then be used when your solar panels aren’t producing enough power, such as at night or on cloudy days. The system seamlessly integrates with your existing solar setup.

Choosing the Right Solar Battery

With so many brands available on the market today it can get very confusing knowing what to look for in a solar battery, we get it! To help with this, we’ve listed some basic but very important points to consider when making your choice.

Power Rating –

The power rating of a battery is expressed in kilowatts (kW), this indicates the maximum amount of power the battery can deliver at any given moment and determines what appliances or loads the battery can handle at once.

Battery Capacity –

The capacity of a battery is expressed in kilowatt-hours (kWh), this indicates the total amount of energy the battery can store and deliver over a period.

Depth of Discharge (DoD) –

The percentage of a battery’s total capacity that’s been used, relative to its overall capacity. Eg: If you have a battery that holds 5kW of energy and the DoD is 80% it means you’ve used 4kW of energy.

Round Trip Efficiency –

Is a measure of how much energy you can get out of your battery compared to what you can put in. The higher the percentage the better because it means the battery is more efficient at storing and delivering energy with minimal losses. Eg: If a battery is charged with 100kWh of energy and later delivers 90kWh of energy when discharged, the round trip efficiency is 90%

Warranty –

Always read the fine print! Don’t just look at the number of years the battery is warranted for, look at the cycles too. Eg: A battery may have a 10yr warranty with a limit of 5000 cycles. This means you can charge and discharge your battery for a total of 5000 times only, regardless if that takes 10yrs or less.

Egress Protection Ratings (IP + 2 digits) –

An IP rating indicates the level of protection an electrical enclosure (your solar battery) has against solids and liquids. Eg: An IP55 rating means the battery can withstand an outdoor installation where dust and rain may be present. An IP67 rating means the battery can withstand an outdoor setting where dust and heavy rainfall may be present and potential flooding; where your battery may be submerged up to 1m for 30 minutes.

What size battery do you need?

Choosing the right size battery for your needs involves several steps, including assessing your energy usage, understanding your power needs, and considering factors such as budget and space. An average household requires approximately 20kW of energy storage, however this can vary greatly based on each households individual energy consumption habits.

FAQ

No, as they are an LFE PO4 chemistry, which makes for a highly stable environment where the battery cannot go into terminal runaway.

Yes, because they are an AC-coupled battery.

No need for a hybrid inverter because they are an AC-coupled battery, installed on the AC side of the inverter, with no need to modify the existing solar system to install this battery.

Through the use of your application or pairing up with you energy partner you can use the grid to charge your battery at lower tariffs rates to get a greater energy independents

Yes it will it will back up essential circuits that you nominate on the day of installation up to 21 amps single phase.

Many appliances example dryer washer dishwasher fridge freezer and many others it is just a many of how long you can run them for as it is based on storage capacity eg how big is your battery 10kw, 20kw, 30kws, etc

No because of the battery technology advancements this is no longer the case however it is not recommended to discharge your battery below 10%

Yes you can.

If REA it is 10 years warranty or 10,000 cycles if cycled one a day it ends up tp 27 years If Enphase the warranty is 15 years or 6,000 cycles if cycling your battery once a day is 16 years.

The battery recycling process is constantly involving.

Yes.

No.

Split system air conditioning unit 8 hours or washing machine and dryer for 2 hours or lights, TV, Power points and appliances overnight other than dryers and air conditioners overnight. Ducted air conditioner 3 to 4 hours if single phase.
